You can leave a legacy of your compassion for animals by making a planned gift to UAN. Below find information on how to leave a bequest in your will and other types of planned gifts.
This information is meant to offer you basic information in a readable form. It is not meant to be professional tax or legal advice.
You can also download a chart of planned giving options and their benefits. (PDF)
For more complete information about planned giving, order a copy of UAN’s A Legacy of Compassion booklet online or by calling (916) 429-2457.
UAN’s tax ID number is 68-0124097.
You can give an outright gift of cash, securities or personal property and designate it for transfer to UAN. You can make a gift of described property, a percentage of your estate, the residual of your estate, or a specific dollar amount. Talk to your lawyer or estate planner about including UAN in your will.

The following is suggested language for including United Animal Nations in your will.
Testamentary gift.
I give and bequeath to United Animal Nations, a not-for-profit corporation located in Sacramento, California (tax ID number 68-0124097), the sum of ($______) to be used by its Board of Directors as deemed advisable within its corporation powers.
Testamentary residuary clause.
All the rest, residue, and remainder of my estate, both real and personal, I give, devise and bequeath to United Animal Nations (tax ID number 68-0124097), a not-for-profit corporation located in Sacramento, California, to be used by its Board of Directors as deemed advisable within its corporation powers.
Contingent interest clause.
I give and bequeath to (name the person) the sum of _________ (spell out)_______ dollars ($_______) in the event that he/she shall survive me. Should said (name the person) predecease me, I give and bequeath said sum to United Animal Nations (tax ID number 68-0124097), a not-for-profit corporation, located in Sacramento, California, to be used by its Board of Directors as deemed advisable within its corporation powers.
In most states, a will must go through a probate process that can often be expensive and time consuming. By creating a revocable living trust you can avoid probate while naming UAN as a beneficiary of the trust, much as you would by making a bequest in a will.
Insurance can often provide a fairly inexpensive way for you to leave a sizeable gift for animals. If your existing policy is no longer needed for its initial purpose (such as your children’s education), you can make a gift of it to UAN with tax deductions equal to its cash/replacement value. If you are younger, this is a way to make a larger gift than you might have thought possible.
Like the annuity trust, the unitrust provides life incomes, tax savings and avoidance of capital gains taxes. It differs in that the income is based on the value of the trust assets as revalued annually. During inflationary periods, when the principal may grow, the trust income can increase correspondingly, keeping pace with inflation.
Give your home, a farm or even a vacation cabin to UAN now while continuing to enjoy its use for the rest of your life. UAN does not receive the property until the last tenant has died. This is like leaving the property to us in your will except, by doing so now, you will receive a substantial tax deduction.
The simplest of all trusts: this is accomplished by simply signing a card at your bank that leaves an account "in trust for" UAN. This action is revocable and the assets of the account are yours for the rest of your life, passing to UAN free of probate, after your death.
