What type of organization is UAN?
United Animal Nations (UAN) is a 501(c)(3) non-profit, charitable organization. All of our programs are designed to bring animals out of crisis and into care and strengthen the bond between people and animals.

How many paid employees does UAN have? Volunteers?
UAN has 12 paid employees and more than 3,000 Emergency Animal Rescue Service (EARS) and Humane Education Ambassador Reader (HEAR) volunteers in the United States and Canada. 

Do you have chapters?
No. Our headquarters is in Sacramento, California, but our programs operate nationally. Some of our programs are also available in Canada.

How are you governed?
board of directors elected by our membership oversees UAN. Board members are volunteers and are forbidden by our bylaws from benefiting financially from UAN.

Are you affiliated with another organization?
No. UAN is completely independent, although we often collaborate  with other organizations.

Can you pay for my animal's veterinary bills?
Our LifeLine Grant program offers one-time grants to low- or no-income families, rescuers, Good Samaritans and nonprofit groups facing emergency veterinary crises. We have established explicit guidelines you can review to see if your situation qualifies.

How do I become an EARS volunteer?
By attending an EARS Volunteer Training Workshop.

How do I become a HEAR volunteer?
The HEAR program is being offered in several pilot cities. Find out where our upcoming training workshops are taking place.

Does UAN do individual animal rescues?
No. We only shelter animals temporarily during natural disasters and other crises. If you witness abuse or encounter an animal in trouble, call your local animal control agency.

Do you have a permanent shelter?
No. We operate temporary, emergency animal shelters during and after disasters through our Emergency Animal Rescue Service (EARS).

What can I do to help animals in my community?
Sign up  to receive UAN’s monthly e-mail newsletter and our periodic Action Alerts. These e-mail publications are chock full of ways you can take action to help animals.
